 Biography of Wendy McDonell

Mrs. Wendy McDonell is the newly appointed Director of Educational Standards and Accountability.  She is however a teacher at heart.  She has taught primary, middle and secondary school.  For eight and a half years, she was a principal in Toronto.

She was an associate professor at York University for four years.  In actual fact, she was the first black full time female professor at York University.  She has lectured at Queen’s University, Brock and University of Toronto.

Mrs. McDonell loves to write and has published numerous articles.  She has co-authored books on literacy, second language instruction, mathematics instruction, children’s literature and cooperative learning.

A favorite project of hers was working on a video series produced by the National Film Board of Canada.  This series which was called Playing Fair was produced for children.  It won the Golden Apple Award for Educators in Atlanta. 

Her favorite role is being mother to her two sons.
