Message from Wendy Augustus, Executive Director of The Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust and Advisor to the Parent/Business Partnership Committee of the Interim Education Board.
As an Advisor to the Parent/Business Partnership, I welcome you to the National PTA Site for the Ministry of Education. The Parent/Business Partnership is one of the working groups of the Interim Board of Education (IEB). The IEB has been created to implement the recommendations of the Hopkins Report on Education and act for the Government in reforming the Ministry of Education.
The Parent/Business Partnership seeks to achieve the following:
- improve parental involvement in schools through access to student information
- foster better relationships with parents and students and to allow parents to become an integral part of their child's development within the public school system
- establish relationships with the Business Community
The primary focus of the Partnership includes:
- collection of data using survey instruments
- creation of Virtual PTA Meetings
- creation of School Websites
- creation of parent resource guides
- provision of work shadowing opportunities
- adoption of family friendly policies of school involvement
A Profile of Mrs Wendy Augustus
Mrs. Augustus earned her business degree from Oakwood College in Huntsville Alabama. She then worked for several years at the Bank of Bermuda as a Real Estate Officer, Human Resources Officer and Senior Business Analyst. From there she moved on to Transworld Oil as Director of Bermuda Careers Project. She then worked for the XL Foundation as a Project Manager/Consultant, where she was responsible for strategic analysis and process evaluation. Before becoming the Executive Director for the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust, she was self employed as a business consultant, working primarily within the non-profit area.
Mrs. Augustus was the first person locally to receive a Corporate Community Relations Certification from Boston College, a participant at the Williamsburg Development Institute on successful fundraising processes, solicitation and proposal writing and trained with members & staff at the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine on healthcare fundraising. She currently is a Board Member of the Bermuda Dance Company, Bermuda Hospitals Board, Bermuda College Board of Governors, Bermuda Arts Council, Family Court Panel and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has served as the past President of the National PTA and past member of the Board of Education, Bermuda Careers Centre and BIBA’s Local Awareness Committee. She was the recipient of the Business Professional Women’s Association award for her community service.
