Dear Parents of Excellence,
With warm regards, it is my delight to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year at Francis Patton Primary School! On behalf of all the Staff of Excellence, we are looking forward to a having a productive partnership with you in order to ensure that our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience.
2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers.
3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.
4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life.
5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject.
6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college.
Francis Patton Primary, is a Steven Covey, The Leader in Me school. The Leader in Me is an innovative, school-wide model that emphasizes a culture of student empowerment. Through The Leader in Me programme we teach the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, engage in student goal setting, and ensure that every child has a voice- all of which lead to students’ success.
Francis Patton Primary was recognized as a The Leader in Me Lighthouse School on June, 7, 2016, the first Lighthouse School in the Caribbean region, and the 233rd in the world. This prestigious title demonstrates that we have met or exceeded 144 best practice criteria.
Historically, Francis Patton has been a positive focal point for the Hamilton Parish community and will continue to be. At Francis Patton, we find value in every child. Everyone has something to contribute. We strive to discover each child’s strengths, and help children find opportunities to participate in a school-wide leadership role. We empower children to do as much as they can for themselves.
At Francis Patton you will see student leaders working in the office, assisting in the parking lot, supporting during lunch time, helping with after school activities, bus duty, and aiding during recess.
At Francis Patton we care for our school community as well as the larger community on a whole. We collect food and supplies for local families in need. We have adopted the Shelly Bay Beach & Park, which we partner with KBB every school year to complete our annual KBB Clean up. Students also provide community service with companies/organizations in the Hamilton Parish area. These are just a few examples of how we care for each other and the broader community.
Please know that as your School Principal you can count on me for the following:

• Demonstrating fairness and confidentiality.
• Be a presence in classrooms, observing teaching and learning.
• Putting safety first.
I will count on you to do the following:
• Take advantage of opportunities to learn about school and what we do each day.
• Read what comes home from school, PowerSchool as well as the school’s website moed.bm/fp, and respond in a timely manner.
• Monitor your child’s attendance and ensure they get to school on time with relevant supplies.
• Work closely with your child’s teachers to support your child’s learning at home.
• Protect the confidentiality of all children by asking for information only about your own child.
• Make an appointment if you need to see the teacher or myself.
• Gain a better understanding of the 7 Habits and use them at home.
As I embark upon my 4th year as principal of Francis Patton Primary, the best school in the universe, I am grateful for the support given thus far; I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. I look forward to the upcoming school year and synergizing with all of you in order to ensure that our children are successful.
